FTC (FIRST TECH CHALLENGE)
Where Creativity Meets Competition!
FTC gives students the opportunity to design, build, and program robots about the size of a classroom desktop. Each September, a new challenge is revealed, and teams work with mentors to prepare for a season of fast-paced two-on-two matches.
Robots start the game by running autonomous programs before student drivers take control to showcase strategy, teamwork, and problem-solving on the field. Beyond competition, FTC empowers students to strengthen their STEM skills, practice innovation, and build confidence while making an impact in their community.
2025-2026 Decode Reveal
The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a competition for grades 7-12 that involves designing, building, programming, and operating an 18”x18”x18” robot to compete on a 12-foot-square playing field in an alliance format. The game includes both autonomous and driver-controlled operation of the robot through the Java programming language. A new game, with rules specific to each season, is released every year in September, and teams work on their robot and compete throughout the school year. FTC involves not only the creation of a competitive robot, but also documentation of the engineering process, team management, marketing, budgeting, community outreach, and much more.
Previous Year Achievements

Flower Mound High School has participated in FTC since 2018, and the FMHS Tech Club had seven FTC teams compete in the 2024–2025 season (12791, 21932, 22674, 24563, 24564, 27509, 27667). Anyone is welcome to join, and for the most part, students choose which teams they wish to be on and with whom, although there are limitations on the number of team members.
During the 2024–2025 season, our seven teams combined earned 17 judging and competition awards, with five teams advancing to the North Texas Regional Championship. Team 12791 distinguished itself by winning the Inspire Award at the A&G Tournament, placing 3rd Inspire Award at Regionals, and captaining the Winning Alliance at the UIL State Championship.
